Remembering a birthday...

Today is my grandmother's birthday. She passed away some years back but I always think of her on her birthday. She was someone who REALLY knew how to be cheap and green.

She had not one, but two gardens. From that garden we had tomtatoes, peas, squash, rhubarb and a lot of other great veggies.

She canned fruits and veggies and had a stockpile in her basement.

She was the queen of garage sale shopping.

She sewed socks onto our footie pajamas when the footies wore out.

She made the best homemade applesauce from apples that came from the trees in the "lower 40s".

She was a great Grandma.

How sweet. :)
I always remember my Grandma on her birthday, too. She was also very resourceful - I guess they came from a time when they had to be. I remember her beautiful livingroom rug was hand-sewn out of rags. I don't think she sewed, but she could knit and crochet like it was nothing. I remember when I was little she crocheted me a stuffed bunny. :) And I've heard she had a beautiful singing voice in her younger years.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. :) I sure wish they were around today to share their wisdom.

I miss Grandma. I have lots of Grandma & Pop's stuff around the house that reminds me of them. I feel "green" using their stuff instead of buying new stuff with all the packaging!
